Q: What happens at the initial consultation?
A: In three words… we exchange information. You'll be in control as you tell us what needs and goals you have. Perhaps you want to move everything you have? Maybe you require downsizing (or, "rightsizing") your belongings to fit your new home? The bottom line is we examine all your requirements and then explain our services that fit your particular needs. The initial consultation is free.
Q: After the consultation what comes next?
A: After we share some of the possible services to meet your goals, you'll decide which Move Helper services you want to utilize. You’ll have as much information as you need to make your decisions. You’ll feel assured knowing you’ll have all you need to make your new residence comfortable and functioning to your lifestyle.
Q: How will Move Helpers help me transition to my new residence?
A: We focus on moving our clients, not just their possessions. We recognize the emotional toll of moving, and provide support for times when the heart undergoes moments of sorrow, fear, as well as joy about making a residential transition. We help clients hold on to the good memories, and help them prepare for the next chapter of their lives in a positive way. We also make the move into senior living communities easier by studying the floorplan of the apartment. You’ll never have to worry about how to make everything fit or getting everything unpacked. Your possessions won’t just be moved from Point A to Point B. Whatever your unique needs are, we’ll find a way to address those needs. Every consideration goes into the move so the transition is a smooth and effortless one for you.
Q: How long will it take to start ‘living’?
A: Every situation is different. Every detail and request you have will be addressed by Move Helpers who assure your new home will feel like home. Your new home could be established as soon as you enter the door. For a larger move it can require more time. However, you can have special requests made, such as having your refrigerator stocked with your favorite foods before we leave if you wish.
Q: What services are included in the home move?
A: You can have us help you with just a few tasks or handle everything you want from start to finish so your new home will be ready for you on day one. We’ll handle all your tasks of unpacking, making beds, placing all things in closets as you wish to have them, connecting your television, setting clocks, removing the empty boxes and getting your new home ready for you to arrive. Your move plan will be unique to your needs.
Q: I have so much clutter. What about helping people downsize or ‘rightsize’?
A: Certainly. ‘Rightsizing’ is a good motto for all ages. A person’s needs change along their life’s journey. We can help you organize the things you need and don’t need. By arranging disposition of things that no longer meet your present or future lifestyle, Move Helpers can arrange estate sales, shipping of objects to loved ones, and donations to organizations you approve.
Q: How will I stay in control of the move?
A: Before we begin, we’ll create a plan that you’ve helped design and that you’ve approved. That means although we’ll do the work, and help you make decisions along the way, the final decisions are always yours. At no time will we move forward without your or your loved one’s consent.
Q: Are you bonded and insured?
A: Yes. Move Helpers is bonded and insured for your additional peace of mind. Still, we’re exceedingly careful about who is asked to work in your homes. Your possessions hold special memories and each of your belongings have a story you cherish. We know this. It’s the reason why only people who are knowledgeable about handling items gently and with integrity will work in your home.
Q: What is NASMM and why did you join?
A: The National Association of Senior Move Managers offers not only a network of senior move managers across the country, but also provides continued education. Most important of all, it expects all members to adhere to NASMM’s code of ethics. When you see NASMM (a nonprofit trade organization), you know you are working with the best.
Q: Can you move someone cross country?
Q: My parent(s) are in St. Louis, but I live elsewhere, Can you still help?
A: Certainly. Many adult children can’t travel to the area for whatever reason. This is why picking the right move facilitators is so important – you need someone you can all trust and someone competent. You’ll get understanding, knowledge and support you need with Move Helpers so you’ll be worry-free. Arranging services from St. Louis Move Helpers is one of the most loving things families can do for each other during times of high stress and shouldering numerous responsibilities.
Q: Can you help select a moving company, a real estate agent, estate sale providers and other services?
A: Yes. After examining your unique needs and desires, we’ll help find an agent or other vendors as needed. As always, you’re in control of these decisions, and we will not recommend vendors who provide a “kickback” to Move Helpers for recommending them.
Q: Do you work with people who live with conditions such as Alzheimer's or other challenges?
A: Yes. All people maintain the right to dignity and respect regardless of their circumstance. We make an effort to stay abreast of current trends and we’re knowledgeable of older adult issues.
Q: How much will this cost?
A: It depends on what you choose. However, most of our services are based on hourly rates. Each customized proposal will explain all costs in detail. You can spend as little or as much as your personal budget permits. Furthermore, we’ll help you prioritize the services that will most help in meeting unique goals. Perhaps the biggest question isn’t about monetary costs but rather, “What will this move cost in terms of peace of mind, career or physical health if I don’t use home movers, such as St. Louis Move Helpers?” Trying to ‘go it alone’ or picking the wrong provider when judging by price alone can end up costing you even more in the end.
Q: Do you only move seniors?
A: No. Although we specialize as senior move managers, we can help move anyone of any age or family situation when caring assistance is needed.
Q: Do you work with retirement communities who are looking for move facilitators?
A. Absolutely. If you manage a retirement community and need someone to help facilitate a move for your residents, or soon-to-be residents, we’ll be happy to speak with you.
